I know a certain few have been waiting for this post all day.. so here goes.. I have a MAJOR problem with our National Championship game this year.. Can someone explain to me how Missouri didn’t get into a BCS bowl? How about the fact that Kansas did? How do you justify Ohio State?? Several questions.. very few answers.. other then a severely flawed system.. Lets examine the National Championship game shall we..
Ok.. I have no problem with LSU playing for the National Championship.. LSU finished 11-2, they played 7 ranked teams this year.. The record and the strength of schedule support them being there.. Now we come to Ohio State.. Please someone, explain this one to me please? How do you justify this one? Ohio State finished 10-1, they played 4 ranked teams, none of which were in the top 20.. There is no strength of schedule.. Ohio State’s team, and fans should be writing the BCS, and coaches for this one.. Ick you say.. Hawaii went undefeated this season, why cant they play for the National Championship, yes they did.. and I send out congrats to Colt Brennan on another outstanding season.. call me when Hawaii plays someone.. Having an undefeated season guarantees you a BCS bowl game appearance.. but playing 1 ranked team being Boise State #19 at the time of the game.. doesn’t put you in the running for the National Championship game.. so please don’t bring Hawaii to my attention. Also ask yourself this.. Had there been other undefeated teams this season, would Hawaii be in a BCS bowl game? The answer to that would be NO! People tell me to look at the preseason rankings, been there done that! LSU started out #2, 13 games later, they are still ranked #2.. Ohio State started #11.. What is this supposed to tell me?? LSU should be playing Virginia Tech.. Plain and simple.. Virginia Tech finished 11-2.. They played 5 ranked teams.. of those 5, 4 in the top 20.. I guess no one wanted to see the Virginia Tech/LSU rematch..
Now on to Missouri.. This is the BIGGEST mistake in the BCS bowl series this year.. Whats that you say? Chase Daniels playing in the Cotton Bowl will be a home coming for him, as he is from Southlake.. AND? You cant tell me that he along with the team, coaching staff, and fans don’t feel like they were screwed! Missouri should be playing in the Orange Bowl.. Missouri went 11-2, Played 5 ranked teams, 3 in the top 10.. How do you not put Missouri in a BCS bowl game? Better question how do you put Kansas in the Orange Bowl? Yes they finished 11-1.. They played 2 ranked teams.. Once again Kansas team, and fans should be writing thank you letters.. Kansas should be on the outside looking in.. My buddy Johnnie and I were talking about BCS bowl game scenario’s, and we both felt that Missouri would get screwed, Well buddy… the BCS didn’t disappoint us.. Guess the BCS forgot that Missouri beat Kansas
Now we come to Illinois?? I was talking to my dad about this one.. he thinks that the Big 10 sends a team to a BCS bowl game.. unless the BCS says no.. Ok assuming that is accurate.. 1. Ohio State is already in, 2. Illinois? If I were a Badger fan.. I would be alittle upset right about now.. Now on to USC.. Hey its USC.. they have to keep the streak alive.. I’d rather see them playing OU.. but hey.. that’s just me
I know the mighty dollar controls who plays where.. Which match up will generate the most revenue.. Its a shame that is comes to that! I guess it depends on who you ask, “did the BCS get it right”? So I ask you, my readers.. Did they? These are merely my opinions, and I would love to hear from you guys..

I absolutely agree that Mizzou is the biggest mistake made by the computers this bowl season. Mizzou is the only team ranked in the Top #10 (BCS) that was left out of a BCS bowl game. #6 Mizzou finished 11-2 and #13 Illinois makes it to the Rose Bowl! WTF?! Illinois’ only spectacular moment of the season was upsetting #1 Ohio State. Didn’t Mizzou take down an undefeated #2 Kansas??! Illinois not only jumped ahead of Mizzou, but also Florida and Arizona State, both of which were ranked in the Top 5 at some point during the season!
As far as the rest of the BCS, here’s what you have to remember. Conference champions from the ACC (Va Tech), Big East (WVU), Big Ten (The OSU), Big 12 (OU), Pac-10 (USC), and SEC (LSU) get an automatic pass to a BCS game. This structure leaves four slots open for other teams. Special rules apply to the those slots. Since Hawaii (WAC Champ) finish in the Top 12, then they receive an auto bid too (course finishing with a perfect season helps too). The other 3 slots are then filled by those teams in the top 14 and must have 9 wins. So the computers selected KU (no schedule), Illinois (no schedule), and Georgia (better schedule).
I guess the only saving grace is that when OSU and LSU meet on January 7th, it will be a home game for the Tigers! Surely Les Miles can stick it to the Buckeyes in the Superdome!
I think its interesting that everyone assumes LSU is going to stick it to the Ohio State. When was the last time LSU stuck it to anyone? VTech? Kentucky and Arkansas are not very good teams, contrary to the SEC propaganda. I think it will be a good game. The winner will be decided by how many players LSU can get back to full or near full health before kickoff.
Oklahoma or Georgia, and maybe USC, would putting a pretty solid beating on LSU, Ohio State, or VTech, but those teams did not merit a spot in the game.
Quality blog. Keep up
@ Scott..
I think LSU matches up well with Ohio State.. Now if it was the Ohio State of the last few years.. well minus the National Championship game last year.. Then I would tend to agree with you about their chances this year.. This Ohio State team, like the Longhorns this year, lacked that killer instinct… Im still of the opinion that VTech got hosed.. once again.. just my opinion.. USC/OU would have been the game to watch this bowl season..
Thanks for the kind words.. Please keep reading!
Saw this on the BCS website, and thought it might answer your question about Illinois. Doesn’t make a hell of a lot of sense, but hey, it’s California!!
Don’t mess with Rose Bowl tradition.
Organizers decided to stick with their historical Pac-10-Big Ten matchup Sunday, picking 13th-ranked Illinois to play Southern California on New Year’s Day after Ohio State got upgraded to the national championship game.
“Illinois presented the tradition of the Big Ten-Pac-10, and wanting to stick with that tradition when we can was really the primary decision,” said CL Keedy, president of the Tournament of Roses Association.
It is the first trip to Pasadena for the Illini (9-3) since 1983, and their first bowl game since the 2001 season. For the sixth-ranked Trojans (10-2), the Rose Bowl is getting to be like their own New Year’s tradition. This is their third straight trip, fourth in the past five seasons and 32nd overall.
“I like, frankly, that it’s Pac-10-Big Ten. I think that’s cool that that’s the way it came off,” USC coach Pete Carroll said. “We’re fired up about it and we’re going to have fun with it and have a great time in preparation. Nothing but good stuff. It’s a good day.”
A good day for Rose Bowl organizers, who are fiercely protective of their history and traditions. They were the last holdout for the Bowl Championship Series, and have tried to keep the Pac-10-Big Ten matchup whenever possible.
In this, the wackiest of seasons, it sure looked to be in jeopardy. Ohio State began the weekend at No. 3, but when Missouri and West Virginia lost, it jumped back up to No. 1 - and into the national title game.
That meant Rose Bowl organizers could pick a team from outside the Big Ten, and there were some big names to consider. While Georgia wasn’t available, Boston College and unbeaten Hawaii were.
So were the Illini, and in the end, history won out.
