How good of shape will you be in at 101?

Several weeks ago I wrote a post about a buddy of mine who was attempting to break the world record for fastest transcontinental skate across the U.S. (he did it by the way – a longer write up will come later after he gets back to Dallas). Last night when I was watching CNN, I came across another record that may be broken soon, the oldest person to run a marathon.

Pierre Jean “Buster” Martin is 101 years old and is currently training for the London Marathon on April 13, 2008, and if he completes it, he will be the oldest person to have run a marathon by 3 years, 6 months, and 3 days.

I was intrigued enough to look up a little more about this guy. Not only is he training for a marathon, but shortly before he turned 100, he decided he was getting bored and went back to work for Pimlico Plumbers. Then, in his spare time, in addition to training for the marathon, he plays in a rock band, The Zimmers, a British band formed by older individuals.

At age 101, though, do not expect this guy to be a pushover. Approximately a year ago, he defended himself against 3 muggers. I guess you should never underestimate somebody.
