don’t mess with my football fix

so the nfl has decided to screw with our off-season football fix.

ESPN, SI and the NFL are reporting it as 2 rounds on Saturday, each pick dropped from 15 minutes to 10 minutes.  The best nfl writer (Rick Gosselin) tells us what the others aren’t telling you… they are moving the 3rd round to sunday and reducing the 3rd-7th round picks from 10 minutes to 7 minutes…

Normally I’d be skeptical of an article including much more in depth details than a press release would say… but logic would say the sunday draft telecast would last FOREVER if they added another round and didn’t shorten the time allotted to make a pick.   I have 3 main problems with this:

  1. This will eliminate much of the trading activity I enjoy so much… these trades aren’t easy to work out, and if 1 option falls threw, there won’t be enough time to get serious with a 2nd or 3rd team to get a deal done.
  2. The networks already have trouble covering who is picked in the later rounds of the draft.  Now, they just flash a ticker in the middle of a commercial break and talk about it if they can… now, it will be nothing but a ticker during a commercial break… no time for analysis on 7 minutes with a 4 minute commercial break  every 10 minutes!  this will include the 3rd and 4th round picks!!!  Those are real impact players being picked in that range, and all we will get is a name on a ticker during a FUCKING VIAGRA COMMERCIAL!!!
  3. THIS IS MY WEEKEND OFF!!! I love being able to schedule a whole weekend on the coach with a few buddies, a grill full of food, and a bunch of beers.  There is no football for months on either side of the draft, hockey fucking sucks and baseball hasn’t started yet.  The NFL has cut out 1/3rd of my holiday weekend.  I guess it’ll at least eliminate 1/3rd of the loud and terrible mel kiper jr out of my life (hows that mike williams working out for detroit?… that was his #1 overall player a few years ago).

The Miami Dolphins are off to their worst start in franchise history.. This season has not been kind to them.. they have lost Ronnie Brown, and Trent Green for the season due to injuries and Chris Chambers was traded to San Diego.. With no offense.. and little defense.. its likely that the Dolphins could go win-less this season.. Maybe Mr Goodell should match up the Rams and Dolphins in a mercy game.. so atleast one of them can get a win.. Just a thought!

Brown out for season
