The Aftermath Of The Showdown!

Was your popcorn ready for the showdown? Did you find yourself making sure all work was done by 5.. so you could get home, put your jersey on and get comfy on the couch? Did you make it to your friends house, or local sports bar by kick off? Where do I start?? Cowboys are 11-1.. They clinch a playoff spot tonight.. Can win the division with a Giants loss this weekend.. Sounds pretty good right? While driving home tonight, I was listening to the post game show on a local sports talk station here in Dallas.. The first caller of the night was a Packers fan.. and I knew this question would be coming.. “If Brett Favre had not gotten hurt do you think the Cowboys still would have won?” Who didn’t see this one coming.. Yes the Cowboys would have still won this game.. Key reason.. prior to Favres leaving this game he had 5 completions for 64 yards, and 2 interceptions.. that right there would lead me to believe the following..

A. Favre was seeing pressure that he is not used to seeing, and he was not allowed to pick our defense apart..

B. Our secondary finally showed up to play!!

Second caller of the night.. obviously another Packer fan.. “The refs gave the Cowboys the game, because they wanted America’s Poster boy “Romo” to continue his cinderella story “Are you f**king kidding me”? I might buy that if Romo had another retarded attack like he had in Buffalo.. but come on, are you serious? 19/30 309yrds 4 TD 1 interception.. and keep in mind the interception was not his fault.. Eventually people are going to have to face facts.. Tony Romo is for real! I don’t really see why that is so hard for people to believe.. Yes he was undrafted, yes he sat on the bench for 4 years.. I guess everyone seems to forget the fact that Tom Brady was the 33rd pick in the 6th round of the 2000 draft.. Is it that hard to believe that Romo is for real?

Now I know with these big games comes the really stupid questions and comments.. Packer fans.. no disrespect.. but I truly believe, simply put.. The Packers finally ran up against a team that made them look average.. the Cowboys exposed soft spots in the defense.. and got pressure on Favre.. Not to say our defense did a stellar job in the 2nd half.. because honestly.. I thought this game was over at half time.. especially with Aaron Rogers at the helm.. The Cowboys defense started to scare me down the stretch..Before I get the irate email for an angry cheesehead. I understand two of your key secondary players were out.. might have made a difference in the outcome, but hey.. we could bring up the fact that we are playing without Glenn.. When it all boils down to it.. This Cowboys team is for real.. and I guess the only way they will get the respect they have EARNED and deserve.. were just going to have to make a trip to Arizona.. and bring us back a trophy!

Last but not least.. As a Cowboys fan.. the pass interference call late in the 4th quarter really could have gone either way.. Romo aired it out on 1st and 1o.. Worst case scenario.. we don’t get the call, and its 2nd down and 10.. roughly about 10-15 yards more.. were in field goal range.. and we win by 6..

Taylor Was Targeted?

Antrel Rolle thinks his childhood friend Sean Taylor’s shooting was not a burglary gone wrong.. he thinks he was targeted by a group Taylor had parted ways from.. Rolle later adds that while Taylor was home in Miami.. he lived his life in fear.. I guess the thing I wonder about.. Why would you continue to live, and raise a family in an environment your scared in? Why not move? Burglary gone wrong, or murder.. its still a tragic loss..

Seems the mayor of Green Bay, James J. Schmitt and the mayor of Dallas, Tom Leppert have a friendly bet on the game tomorrow..

If Dallas wins.. Schmitt will be sending Leppert 10 pounds of cheese.. and a gift basket of football shaped summer sausage..

If Green Bay wins.. Leppert will be sending Schmitt some good ole Texas BBQ and sweet tea!

Atleast no one is loosing any hair in the bet!

When I started Ick’s Corner back in August.. I didn’t know if it would be like my first attempt at a blog.. a COMPLETE FAILURE, atleast in my eyes..not very many readers.. So when my mother in law suggested I move my blog to wordpress.. I was kinda skeptical..  Now I admit I keep track of the hit stats on a daily basis.. I tend to get alittle excited when I see my daily hits take off.. I’m like a kid at Christmas.. I just wanted to thank everyone that stops by whether it be once a day, week, or month.. it means alot to me.. Its nice to know that people like what we are doing here at the corner! You guys keep stopping by, and we will keep writing!!

Today, thousands of Liverpool fans are taking to the streets actually protesting Tom Hick’s ownership… IT DIDN’T EVEN TAKE HIM 1 SEASON TO PISS OFF THE FAN BASE…

To any futbol fans out there, I’m sorry to say you’re now getting to meet Bill Wirtz version 2.0… one of the greatest futbol teams ever is now gonna be a joke…

Showdown In Texas

The two “Gun Slingers” finally get the showdown we have all been waiting for.. I’m really glad to hear the experts refer to this game “as big as the Patriots/Colts”.. The NFC finally gets some respect. For years we have heard how weak the NFC is.. Not this year sports fans. Favre brings in his 10-1 Packers into Texas Stadium with somethings to prove.. his Packers are for real, and he can win in Texas Stadium.. As his record here is 0-8 in Texas Stadium.. Can this young Packers defense stop this high powered Cowboys offense led by Tony Romo?

Could this be the game where Tony Romo is lifted out of Bret Favres shadow? Probably not.. Romo still has a long road ahead of him before he can do that.. I think Romo is doomed to be compared to Favre for the rest of his career. Will T.O. be the dominate wide receiver we need him to be? Will the Packers have an answer for Jason Witten? Will Roy Williams continue to be Roy Williams? Who will get the pleasure of covering Donald Driver all game?

Lots of questions surround this game.. I have merely scratched the surface.. This will be one hell of a game.. I can say this with confidence thou.. If the Packers what an offensive shootout.. Bring it on! This Cowboys team has shown all season long, they can score from just about anywhere on the field.. and this offense is one of the best in the league!

I would like to point out, there is a team in the top 10 of this weeks power rankings that seems to be outta place.. Who would have ever thought the Cleveland Browns would be there?? Well other then the loyal “dawg pound” 🙂  I’m telling you.. I already considered that first round pick the Cowboys got for next year from the Browns was gonna be a top 10 pick!
