Allen Heads To Vikings…

Elite pass rusher Jared Allen is heading to the Vikings, but did the Vikings give waaaay to much?? *Shakes magic 8 ball* *Unsure at this time, please ask again later* The Vikings must really have a man crush on the 26 year old defensive end.. Signing him to a 6 year $74 Million dollar contract.. with $31 Million guaranteed. The Vikings also give Kansas City a 1st round draft pick (this year) and 2 3rd round draft picks, giving Kansas City 6 picks in the top 82 this year.

Bricks range in size, and donation amounts.. but once you buy a brick, you can engrave it.. which is really cool if you ask me..

The effect Ryan Leaf’s inability to become the Chargers’ franchise quarterback impacted the futures of four notable quarterbacks.

1. Michael Vick — Playing in Atlanta ultimately couldn’t distance Vick from the negative influences of his past. Might things have turned out differently for Vick in San Diego? The Chargers decided against taking a quarterback early in the 2001 draft, and no one could blame them.

2. Drew Brees — With the Leaf fiasco behind them, the Chargers armed Brees with a strong ground game and an all-world tight end. Brees took full advantage, eventually earning a long-term deal from New Orleans in free agency.

3. Eli Manning — The Chargers wanted Manning, but the quarterback balked at the idea, reportedly over concerns about the organization’s ability to win. No one did more than Leaf to raise those concerns.

4. Philip Rivers — Leaf should have been in his prime when the Chargers acquired Rivers’ rights from the New York Giants in the draft-day trade that sent Manning to the East Coast. — Mike Sando

It’s World Superbike Time!!!

That’s right folks. WSBK kicked off it’s 2008 season in Doha, Qatar.

THE CIRCUIT
Name: Losail International Circuit
Length: 5.380 km
Pole Position: right
Finish line length: 1068 metres
Race distance: 2 x 18 laps/96.840 km

WSBK is similar to AMA Superbike because they both use bikes that are available to the general public but unlike the Supersport type racing that require the bikes to remain almost stock and use DOT tires, Superbikes are allowed significant modifications and use slick racing tires. WSBK also runs 2 races per weekend. I do believe AMA has gone to that practice as well for it’s Superbike class.

Most people know that I’m a HUGE Ducati fan. With that said, please take notice of how many finished in the top 10….. Ducati stepped away from all Superbike classes last year. This is their first year back with the new 1098….. Hmmmmmm, not bad.

Champ Car/IRL To Merge???

Talks have been going on for some time now to merge the 2 top open wheel racing series in the United States and Canada. The Champ Car Series, formally known as CART was tossed into financial disarray when IRL founder, owner of Indianapolis Motor Speedway and über-dunce bucket supreme, Tony George, decided he couldn’t get enough of that left turning normally aspirated V8 NASCAR style racing. With Goerge’s financial backing, the IRL has sputtered along with it’s less than exciting open wheel action which included the Indy 500… CART went bankrupt but was later purchased by Gerald Forsythe, Dan Pettit and Paul Gentilozzi and is still around but has a limited following because most of the good drivers defected to the IRL camp for monetary purposes.

This merge will be a good thing although that most excellent sound of screaming turbocharged Cosworth engines will give way to the NASCAResque N.A. V8’s……. Oh well. You can’t have everything. Along with the IRL’s banal lefty venues, the new series will include Champ Car’s Long Beach, Edmonton and Surfers Paradise in Australia. More Champ Car tracks will be added in 2009. (Hopefully that includes Road America)

The IRL series is slated to start on March 29th at Homestead in Florida so let’s hurry up and get this thing done boys.

New To Ick’s Corner

So with racing season starting up.. I thought I should bring in someone who knows alittle something about racing. No were not talking about Nascar.. what the hell would he write about? “This weekend at the Nextel *insert random track here* a field of 40 cars turned left for 500 miles” *Shakes head* Were talking about F1, Motorcycles, Champ Cars, and other cool racing stuff.. So without further adieu.. I give you.. Silent E. I’ll let him tell you guys and girls alittle bit about himself when he makes his first appearance.. Everyone make him feel welcomed.. even thou he is a Packers fan!! 😉
