Boras Thought Process: “I &#$! THE BED ON THIS ONE!”

Apparently Scott Boras is realizing he screwed up.  He won’t say that, but rest assured, he’s regretting it.  The only reason baseball salaries have gone through the roof is because the Yankees throw stupid money at elite players, or other teams throwing stupid money at players for FEAR of the Yankees throwing stupid money at those same players.

“We were very sincere and honest and direct with Scott Boras. … It’s a lot of money — to any franchise, even the New York Yankees,” general manager Brian Cashman said Tuesday. “It was just a representation of simple economics: $30 million is nothing to sneeze at.”

Detroit Manager Dave Dombrowski: “He turned down about $28 million a year from the Yankees, and we got a player we like a lot to fill our need for a shortstop”

I am officially setting the Over/Under for the total A-Rod average salary per year at that turned down 28 million per year the Yankees offered.  I’m so taking the UNDER!

Schilling Tests Waters

curt-schilling-760339.jpg

Days after winning the World Series.. Curt Schilling is a free agent?? Seems Curt is only looking for a one year deal.. To bad the Rangers aren’t a real team.. Would love to see Curt end up in Arlington.. Now that Tom Hicks has some money in his wallet from ARod opting out of his deal.. Not that Mr Hicks will use it.. When I first heard about this.. the first thought that came to mind, is “I sure hope Curt isn’t pulling a Roger Clemens” You know that whole.. Arm for hire thing.. I’m also glad to see that the Yankees are not on Schilling’s list!! If Schilling wants to play for a contender.. Perhaps he should seriously think about staying where he is… I guess only time will tell where Schilling ends up.. Here is his list of teams he would consider playing for

Cleveland
Detroit
Anaheim
New York Mets
Philadelphia
Atlanta
L.A.
S.D.
Arizona
Chicago Cubs
St. Louis
Milwaukee

Curt Schillings blog 38 Pitches is listed on my sidebar.. You should see the hundreds of comments he has on his post about becoming a free agent.. Very interesting reading 🙂

Longhorn Humor..

longhorn.gif

*Disclaimer.. I am a huge Longhorn fan.. but I am not real happy with my boys this season, and Mack’s inability to keep some players out of jail!

It’s been almost one (1) week without an arrest of a Longhorn football player!  Good Job Mack – way to keep those boys in line!!! (Note:  for those of you that don’t know, Austin ‘s Pride has  produced, within the last month, four (4) boys- w/ mugshots and prints. Two for armed robbery (w/ firearms), one for auto burglary &  DUI and another for DUI)
Despite, their days of ‘good behavior’ – I thought you might find these jokes timely!

1. What do you call a drug ring in Austin ?
A huddle.

2. There are four UT Longhorns in a car, who’s driving?
The police.

3. The UT Longhorns have adopted a new ‘Honor System’.
Yes your Honor, No your Honor.

4. The UT Longhorns knew they had to do something for their defense, so they hired a new defensive coordinator:
F. Lee Bailey.

5. How do the UT Longhorns spend their first week at fall practice?
Studying their Miranda Rights.

6. What do you say to a Longhorn in a suit?
Will the defendant please rise?

7. If you see a Longhorn football player on a bike, why don’t you swerve to hit him?
It might be your bike!

8. Why do the Longhorns employ scouts ?
To look out for cops, not to scout high school kids.

9. I heard a rumor that the Texas Department of Corrections plans build a new prison in Austin,Texas in order to allow Longhorns to walk to school.

10. What do you call it, when a Longhorn goes on vacation?
Time off for good behavior.

11. Why couldn’t the Longhorn get into a huddle on the football field?
It’s a parole violation to associate with known felons.

12. Obviously Coach Mack Brown is not paying his players if they have to resort to robbing people.

Unavoidable urge to link!

I try not to get political here… but this is GREAT!

please vote yes! November 6th.

Romo worth it?

October 28th

“Oakland Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell suited up for his first NFL game, listed as a third-stringer Sunday against Tennessee.”

“Russell held out for 48 days and is reportedly guaranteed a record $29 million in his six-year, $61 million deal. He would get an additional $3 million if he reaches minimal playing time incentives.”

October 29th

“The Cowboys have called a 1 p.m. (CDT) press conference Tuesday at Valley Ranch, where they’re expected to announce a new six-year, $67.5 million contract extension that will make Romo one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL. ”

If I remember correctly; Romo makes “just a few” million more than McNabb (pre-cap increase contract), Russell, Schabb, Eli, and Bulger. Only one I like better is Eli (stepping up BIG this year). So where does he rank in the league’s starting QBs? I’ll be putting together my personal QB rankings when I get some free time.

The Jedi Gets Paid!

romo_starwars.jpg

So I’m sure that by now you all have heard that Tony Romo is about to get paid!  Seems Jerry Jones has seen enough from his young Jedi… Romo and the Cowboys come to terms on a 6 year 67 million dollar deal with 30 million guaranteed! Fans in and around Dallas have mixed emotions on this deal.. Some are dancing in the streets, because we have Romo locked up for 6 more years.. Some fans are of the opinion that we should have kept Romo hungry.. and not tried to deal with him until after the season.. Let me tell you something.. I truly believe that no matter if Romo was making $5 a game.. were going to get the same level of performance out of him.. He is dying breed in sports today.. He plays the game because he loves to play the game…

If Romo tanks the rest of the season.. *prays to the sports gods, that doesn’t happen* Then I’m sure fans will all unite to burn his house to the ground.. as I’m sure the Bears fans wanted to burn Rex Grossmans house to the ground in about the third quarter of last years Superbowl! If he leads the Cowboys back to the promise land.. Then fans will sing his praises! Is Romo worth the new contract?  I think the better question to ask,  Is Romo worth the investment? The answer to that question is ABSOLUTELY! We now have something in Dallas we have not had since Troy Aikman.. A franchise QB!! Not a bandaide.. I.E. Bledsoe, or Vinny.. Not a waste of roster space I.E. Hutch, Carter, Hensen, or Brooks!! I personally like what Romo brings to the Cowboys.. I like the fact that Romo can extend a play, and buy himself time, and not depend on his offensive line to keep the pocket around him..  Now if Jerry will just crack open that wallet to get us a running back to go with Barber.. We will be all set!!

Karma Is Coming!

*Disclaimer- The opinions expressed in this post are mine.. and mine only*

I think the spygate scandal pissed the Patriots off.. more importantly Bill Belichick.. One would think that Belichick is out to prove a point this season.. I guess Belichick took it personally when people thought his 3 Superbowl wins were tainted! I’m sorry, but I think the Patriots are showing exactly how much class they truly don’t have at this point. If your a coach.. and your up by 14 going into the forth quarter, and your playing a winless team.. Why not pull your QB, to ensure he doesn’t get hurt.. Oh wait.. Belichick did that last week against the Dolphins.. Only to put Brady right back in, after the back up throws an interception? Why? Why do you take a chance on your QB getting hurt? Yesterdays game against the Redskins made me sick to my stomach! I understand if you want to keep a team from running up the score on you, stop them! Yesterday the Redskins reminded me of a boxer that could no longer defend themselves.. and were waiting on the ref to stop the fight! The Redskins defense could do nothing to stop the Patriots! Another question I have is, why go for it on 4th and short when your up by 40+? After the game.. Belichick was asked.. why did he go for it, his response was “What were we supposed to do? Kick a field goal? YES! Act like you have some respect for the team your playing, and act like you have some class!

The media is talking about how great the Patriots are this season, thou its always followed by a “BUT” The Patriots are great, “BUT” why are they running up the score? The Patriots are great, “BUT” why is Belichick taking unnecessary risks with his starters? The Patriots are great “BUT” they haven’t played anyone this season, other then the Cowboys.. The Patriots are great “BUT” what are they going to do this Sunday against Peyton, and that Indy Defense.. Because we all know.. Tom Brady, is Bob Sanders bitch! Now I’m sure that I’m going to get blasted on by the fans of the Patriots.. I must remind myself to “Consider the source” As the Patriots fans are one tiny step above the Philadelphia fans!  All I can say… is Karma will be coming for the Patriots at some point this season..

Congrats Redsox…

Congrats Red Sox… they were unquestionably the best team in the league.  Have a championship beer for those of us Rangers fans that have 1 playoff win in their 35 year history… we’re not jealous, seriously, we don’t know what its like to have a .500 team round these parts.  Please keep your score boarding to the Yankees fans that deserve it, and not the rest of the baseball world that doesn’t.

In other baseball news, A-Rod opts out of his contract. The baseball antichrist is wanting to get him 12 years @ 30 million per.  This refunds the Rangers 21 million on A-Rod’s last contract for Tom Hicks to not use on his team.  As a repercussion the Yankees are out of the bidding… so now the question: Are the Red Sox interested? highly doubtful.  So now there are 5 big money teams that are in the A-Rod bidding (Cubs, Angels, Giants, Mets, and Dodgers).  Cubs won’t pay him (being for sale and all), Angels are apparently backing down… down to 3 teams that MIGHT be interested and can afford him.  Theres next to no leverage Boras can use here.  If A-Rod gets 3/4th of the $ they are asking for, then Boras might be the single greatest salesman of all time.

So we know 6 things will remain true at least until the Winter Meetings:

  1. The Red Sox rule all.  They are stable financially and talent wise.
  2. The Yankees are completely lost and have no identifiable direction.  Not rebuilding, not reloading.
  3. The Angels are in great shape, and might be the only real competition for the Sox next year.
  4. Tom Hicks is pocketing a lot of money and won’t do anything to improve his team… Its OUR fault though! we don’t sell out every game for a shitty team that plays in the middle of nowhere. (Side note: DOWNTOWN STADIUMS RULE!  Fuck Laura Miller… Dallas peeps know wtf I’m talking about)
  5. The NL sucks.
  6. A-Rod is gonna be disappointed in his next contract.
